Finte na hÉireann ~ Clans of Ireland is an independent permanent authority established in 1989 to:
provide for the registration of Irish Clans and historical families
represent the intrerests of Irish Clans and historical families
support the establishment of clan associations
to provide authentic and scholarly information related to Clans and historical families
We are regularly consulted by government agencies, embassies, historical and
cultural groups, the media and members of the general public. We maintain a very
strong and positive relationship with the Standing Council of Irish Chiefs and
Chieftains who represent the hereditary Chiefs.
As an incorporated legal entity in Ireland with charitable status we operate
within the remit of Irish law and any clan that registers with us is obliged to
do the same.
Membership of Clans of Ireland is restricted to those Irish Clans and historical
families who's surname is of Irish origin or who have a presence in Ireland
prior to the Great Famine (1845-1862). As such the Register of Clans of Ireland
includes families of Irish, Norse, Anglo-Norman, Scots, Gallowglass, Huguenot,
and Quaker origins.
If you are looking for information about a specific Irish Clan or historicak
family please consult the Register of Clans 2011 and contact your clan directly.
If you wish to have your clan registered please consult the registration page on
this website. If your clan is not currently organised you might consider
establishing a clan society and we will be happy to support you in your
endeavours.
